STORM WATCH 2007
Yes, today if did something it has not done in Los Angeles for 160 days; it rained.
Rain here is an even that is only second to earthquakes in the amount of news coverage of them. More perhaps, because there are days of fretful forecasts: will it hit? Where? How much? Will this affect to burn areas? Will there be mudslides?
Angelenos famously do not know how to cope with the rain. I have had book signings where no-one showed up except the hapless author because of the rain. People will either drive like maniacs, as if cars were somehow water-solulble or they plod along, hyper vigilant that they might aquaplane.
In any case, it should make tomorrow one of those crystal-clear days that send people off to the lookout points on Mulholland where on one side you can see Palm Springs and the other Catalina. Hmmm, gives me an idea...

I grew up in a similar climate, where a hail storm is a reason for rescheduling primetime TV.
I remember it fondly every time I get to drive during a nasty snow storm.
I hate cold weather. I'm freezing if it gets into the forties here.
Can you imagine what would happen if it snowed?! Growing up in the weather-rugged Midwest and living in Minneapolist for a short time, followed by moving to AZ in my thirties, I now have an appreciation for the resilience of people who live in cold, harsh climates. Now having been in AZ for seven+ years, I am astonished at my own intolerance of such events. Rain. It's as if people are stunned into inactivity. They forget how to drive and their whole day basically stops. Where I grew up it was just a nuisance at most, refreshing at least but nothing slowed down as a result. We are such wimps! LOL
There was a neat little book by Thom Racina that dealt with that nightmarish scenario: outlook not to good if it did...
